The Wayside Waves Team can not run without your help and support. All families are expected to help out at 3 or more meets during the season as well as championships. Without your help we can not run a well organized and fun meet. Below is a listing of the different volunteer positions, with a short description of the various jobs. As you can see we need a lot of help. Most of these jobs are needed at the meets but a couple, are jobs to help support the team.
At our home meets we sell food to help raise money for the team. This money goes toward our end of the season banquet and other purchases for the team. A lot of the money we raised over the last few years has gone to our timing system and new score board that has been installed and we will be using at our home meets.
Thank you Arnie Cohen
To sign-up to help at the meets or to bring food please go the Sign-up Page * some jobs require additional training. Any job marked with an * needs to be trained before the meet to work these jobs. Please see Arnie if you can help with any of these positions.
Meet Volunteer Jobs If you have any question on any of these jobs please ask. Thank you for your help.

Ideally this person or group of people will have at least a basic understanding of all the different positions and when needed help resolve issues that come up at the meets
*Starter – The Starter is the person who helps move the meet along. You must work with the other officials, timers, coaches and swimmers to make sure everyone is ready for the start of each race. You will need to inform everyone of the race that is to be swum as well as the event number and heat of the swim. Your biggest responsibility is to make sure that no swimmer gets and advantage over any other swimmer at the start of the race.
*Stroke and Turn Judge – The Stroke and Turn Judges will make sure that the swimmers adhere to the rules of swimming. When a swimmer does not adhere to one or more of the rules of swimming you will inform the swimmer that they disqualified themselves and also inform the timer that the swimmer disqualified themselves as well.
Runner - The runner will bring the paperwork (time sheets) from the score table to the timers and when the timers are done with the sheet, you will bring them back to the score table.
*Scorer – Using the Meet Manager Program and our Dolphin Timing System you will make sure the swimmers times are recorded for each swim during the meet.
Bullpen – Help organize the swimmers and if needed help combine heats and possibly events so the meet can move along efficiently.
Timer – Using a stopwatch the Timers will take and record the time it takes the swimmer to swim their race. The head timer for the lane will record the times from all timers in the lane.
Back up Timer – This person will start their watch with all other timers and if a watch from one of the lanes does not work properly or start properly then you will be the back up timer for the watch that is not working correctly.
Line Up – you will make sure the swimmers get to the bullpen for their event.
Set up – The set up crew will need to arrive about 30 minutes before check in to help get tables and chairs ready for the meet, will help get other items like lane lines, watches and clip boards ready as well.
Clean up – The clean up crew will help clean up the pool area, put equipment away and make sure the pool is ready for the next group
Food Stand - these people will help set up or clean up the food stand as well as sell the food to swimmers and spectators for the meets we are allowed to sell food.
Ribbon Labelers – You will place labels indicating how a swimmer did at the meet onto ribbons. This will usually be done at the first practice after a meet.
